Barcelona remains unbeaten since the season started and have won their fifth La Liga game in a row, and while this wasn’t as pretty and dominant as the last two games it was just as exciting as Barcelona came from behind to beat Celta Vigo 3-2 at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on Saturday evening.
Barcelona struggled for 75
minutes to break down the visitor’s tight defence and found themselves down by
two goals, but a fantastic late comeback led by Robert Lewandowski and finished
by João Cancelo gave Barcelona all three points in dramatic approach, and the
defending champions will be at the top of the table for at least the next 24
hours.
From the second this match
started; one could sense it was going to be a frustrating evening for the home
team. Celta was defending in a very compact 5-3-2 and closing spaces with a
very good organisation. Barcelona had no option but to keep the ball and pass
it around looking for openings, but they struggled to create any significant
chances in the first 20 minutes.

Barcelona improved and began
moving the ball more quickly to finally find some spaces in the middle, and
João Félix missed a couple of outstanding opportunities after great passing
work in midfield. But the Catalans failed to break down the Sky Blues, and lost
Frenkie de Jong to an ankle injury late in the period.
At halftime Celta’s game plan
was being carried out perfectly and they had a deserved lead based on how well
they defended and counter-attacked, and Barcelona needed plenty of improvement
to find a way back in the final period.
On second Xavi Hernández the
goalkeeper of Barcelona wasted no time and was aggressive at halftime, with two
substitutions and a change of formation that left the team with four attackers
and more numbers in the middle as the coach looked to present the Celta defence
with a different difficulty.
Barcelona wasted no time scoring an equaliser after a beautiful pass from Raphinha and an assisted by João Cancelo to Lewandowski, who made it 2-2 just four minutes after his first goal and gave Barcelona a real chance to find a late winner. They did a brilliant cross from Gavi, found a perfectly timed run by João Cancelo and the full-back scored a beautiful goal to give Barcelona the lead just before stoppage time.

Cancelo said that he was grateful to have helped his new team after
having had what he called a poor performance after turning the ball over
several times.
“I made many mistakes, but you
just have to keep focused and play until the end of the game. We didn’t play
well, and Celta performed well defending its area. But it’s always superior to
play poorly and win, than to play well and lose,” said Cancelo.
Seven minutes were added, and
Barcelona needed to regroup and target on protecting the lead as Celta failed
to find a way to rescue a point.

“It was a great counterattack,” said Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández, who signed a contract extension through 2025 on Friday.
“It’s true that we were disorganised at times
and didn’t make the ball flow like in other games, but the team won in faith
and bravery,” he added.
