“A lot of kids walk around without jerseys, their jerseys are torn, and we just thought what difference can we make as a retailer specializing in uniform, what difference and how can we give back to the learners,” said Khabonina Mnguni.

38-year-old Khabonina Mguni is a  co-founder and CEO of ZS uniforms and Jersey drive campaign. Her talent, work ethic and determination commands attention. Khabonina was born in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni in Gauteng Province. She currently resides in Soshanguve, Pretoria.

Khabonina completed her higher education in 2003 at Motheo High School in Gauteng. She studied finance and marketing but later pursued her studies at Boston Media house where she specialised in entrepreneurship and was inspired to become an entrepreneur.

She worked in three different departments throughout her career, branching out from finance to marketing, which is two different spaces and always in search of something.

She explained, “I think entrepreneurship is a calling that started probably back in 2017, probably even back before I was even born, because I come from a family where my grandparents from my maternal and paternal side were both entrepreneurs. So, it's something that pulled me into it.’’

Khabonina said that entrepreneurship chose her. She thought it was something that she had always been looking for, a place where she belonged, for something to enjoy, something to literally ignite and put fire in her spirit and her soul. And she believes that entrepreneurship is something that shows her for who she is, and she is so glad it did because she finally fulfilled it in her career.

Her business specialises in uniforms. She is running a school Jersey Drive called the ZS uniforms and this is an initiative that she came up with support and sponsorship from people in order for her to get school jerseys to kids in need.

Khabonina said that they came up with this initiative to give back to their community. She thought that they must be the change that they wanted to see and that's the whole idea behind this initiative. They wanted to make sure that the learners themselves feel supported.

The company was able to donate 90 jerseys at Tshepisa primary school with 20 jerseys, Isekelo primary school also with 20 jerseys, Welamlambo primary school with 25 jerseys and Nyiko primary school with 25 jerseys.

Their aim is to reach a target of 500 to 1000 jerseys being given to school learners both primary and secondary.

“It really warms our hearts and helps in pushing more as a business and getting more sponsors on board and trying to make a difference in our communities that we come from,” she added.

Princess Khanye the first deputy principal at Welamlambo primary school concluded by giving a word of thanks, “Thank you a million times may God bless you abandonly for what you are doing. As young as you are, other people have been in the business for quite some time, but they don’t think of bringing back to the community. You are touching our hearts, our souls with what you are doing guys thank you.”
